The Haeundae Sky Capsule: Is It Worth It?
How long the Sky Capsule ride is, what it costs as of October 2026, which direction to ride, and how it compares with the cheaper Beach Train.
The Sky Capsule is Haeundae Blueline Park’s glass cabin ride: it travels 2 km along an old coastal railway between Mipo, at the end of Haeundae Beach, and the fishing harbour of Cheongsapo, seven to ten metres above the ground. Visit Busan and the operator both give the one-way trip as about 30 minutes, at an average of 4 km/h, with up to four people riding together.

The way to take it without booking it yourself is on TOURSTORY Korea’s sunset-to-night tour, which includes a Sky Capsule ride along with Cheongsapo’s Daritdol Observatory, The Bay 101 and a Gwangan Bridge viewpoint. It’s from $60 on the booking platform when we checked, rated 4.5 from 551 reviews. The ticket buys a seat in a Sky Capsule, which may be shared with other guests — not a cabin to yourselves.
How long is the ride, and how far ahead should you book?
One way only: about 30 minutes, 2 km, Mipo to Cheongsapo or back. There’s no round trip on a single ticket; to return, the operator sells a separate one-way ticket from the other end, or you take the Beach Train instead. A booking is a half-hour entry window, not a fixed departure, so you can board any time within it, though boarding can run late on weekends and holidays. Same-day discount tickets depend on how many seats are left. Travellers report sell-outs at weekends and at sunset, though that’s their own account rather than something the operator states. For a sunset slot or a weekend, book ahead.
How much does the Sky Capsule cost?
As of October 2026, the operator’s main fare page charges 50,000 won for a two-seat cabin, 55,000 for three seats and 60,000 for four, one way, which works out to 15,000 won a head in a full cabin. Add the Beach Train’s all-stations pass and a two-seat package runs 73,000 won. An older page on the operator’s own site still lists lower, out-of-date prices from around 40,000 to 50,000 won, so don’t be surprised if you see those numbers elsewhere. On a tour, the capsule ticket is already included, and the cabin may be shared with other guests rather than booked just for your party.
Which direction should you ride?
Several travel blogs agree, though we couldn’t confirm it against the operator’s own materials, that riding from Mipo to Cheongsapo is the more popular direction and the one that tends to sell out first, because that side runs closer to the water. Riding the other way, from Cheongsapo back to Mipo, you face Haeundae’s skyline instead. Either direction covers the same 2 km.
Sky Capsule vs Beach Train, and is it worth it
The Beach Train runs the longer route, Mipo to Cheongsapo to Songjeong, 4.8 km over six stations, faster at about 15 km/h with no assigned seats, for 10,000 won a ride. The Sky Capsule is slower, higher above the ground, and private to your own party when you book it yourself, for several times the price. It’s worth it if you want the coast from above at an easy pace, especially near sunset; the Beach Train or the coastal path covers the same stretch for a lot less. Booked direct, two people pay about 25,000 won each for the capsule, against roughly 10,000 won a head for a Beach Train ride over the same stretch of coast — the difference is the price of going higher, slower and with your own party rather than standing room on a shared carriage.
Timing matters too. In October the capsule runs until 18:30, and Busan’s sunset falls between about 18:10 and 17:30, so a sunset ride works. In April and June it closes before the sun does, so expect a golden-hour ride rather than an actual sunset — the tour above adjusts its viewing spots through the evening for that reason.
The capsule also shows up on Lecirt’s day tour through Gamcheon Culture Village, and on other day tours compared in is a Busan photography tour worth it. For the rest of the evening’s stops, see Busan’s best photo spots. Every tour is on the homepage.
